Students are learning about the 3 Branches of Government. While discussing the Legislative Branch, I set up a simulation. Students were either Senators or members of the House of Representatives. One students was the President. Students met in committee to discuss a bill. Then, they either voted or tabled the bill. Next, the other part of Congress met in committee to discuss the bill and vote. If the bill made it to the President, the President decided to veto or sign the bill. Wow, the way the students were discussing and amending the bills, you would have thought they were really congress members. They took their roles very seriously! We were also excited to have 2 female presidents in 2 of the classes.
While Mrs. Schall organized Maine Day, Ms. Cole and Iran an activity where students needed to examine pelts, footprints, skulls and scat of Maine animals. The goal was to use guides to identify each animal's pelt, skull, footprint and scat. The kit was borrowed from the Maine Fish and Wildlife Department. We had a lot of fun!
